About Amos

I'm Amos, a professional test prep tutor based in Irving, Texas, and the founder of a test prep company. I've spent years helping students raise their scores on the SAT and ACT, and I bring that same structured, evidence-driven approach to the LSAT.

Teaching has been the center of my working life. Before building my tutoring practice, I taught upper-school calculus at a classical academy, where the daily work was training students to reason carefully and to justify every step. I also completed a great-books liberal arts program, which means I've spent years doing exactly what the LSAT demands: reading dense arguments closely, identifying their assumptions, and testing whether they hold up. That combination of classroom experience and philosophical training is unusual among LSAT tutors, and it shapes everything about how I teach.

Students and parents can expect a tutor who is organized, punctual, and direct. I prepare for every lesson, I track your progress from one session to the next, and I'll tell you honestly where you stand and what it will take to reach your target score. I hold high standards because law school admissions do, but I'm patient in getting you there; if one explanation doesn't land, I'll find another that does.

About the lesson

My name is Amos, and I teach the LSAT as a discipline of careful reading and rigorous argument rather than as a bag of tricks. The test rewards exactly one thing: the ability to see precisely what a passage claims, what it assumes, and where it goes wrong. Every technique I teach serves that skill.

My method and techniques

I begin with a full timed diagnostic, then go through it question by question to find where your points are actually leaking. Students almost always misjudge this; the section that feels hardest is rarely the one costing the most. From there we build a plan around the real gaps.

For Logical Reasoning, I teach students to classify each question by type and to recognize the small set of argument flaws the LSAT recycles endlessly: unsupported causal claims, scope shifts, confusing necessary and sufficient conditions, and so on. Once you can name the flaw, the answer choices sort themselves. For Reading Comprehension, we practice reading for structure, tracking each author's thesis and the moves made against it, so that questions about tone, purpose, and inference become predictable. For Analytical Reasoning, I teach a compact diagramming system and drill it until setting up a game is automatic, freeing your attention for the inferences that actually earn points.

Every missed question gets fully dissected. You're not done when you know the right answer; you're done when you can explain why each wrong answer is wrong. That habit is what turns a 155 into a 165.

A typical lesson

We open by reviewing the homework you completed since last time, focusing on the questions you missed or guessed on. Then we work a new timed section or a targeted question set together, with me watching how you approach each problem rather than just checking results. The last portion of the lesson is dedicated to one specific skill for the week, whether that's conditional reasoning, weakening arguments, or a particular game type, with drills to take home. Each lesson ends with a clear assignment and a short note on what we're aiming to fix before the next session.

What sets me apart

I founded a test prep company and have spent years tutoring standardized tests, including SAT and ACT work with a national tutoring platform. Before that, I taught upper-school calculus at a classical academy, where the job was teaching students to reason step by step and to justify every claim. My own training in philosophy and close reading through a great-books liberal arts program is directly relevant here: the LSAT is, at bottom, a test of philosophical reading, and I've spent a long time practicing exactly that. I'm patient, I explain the same idea three different ways if that's what it takes, and I hold students to a high standard because the test will.
