About Linyi

I’m a Guildford-based, league-level player offering reliable and adaptable hitting-partner sessions for beginners through to upper-intermediate players.

I play in my club’s men’s team in the Premier Division of our district winter league. In my first singles season in the Nottingham Local Tennis League, I finished with a 5–2 record. I have played regularly for four years and use a one-handed backhand.

In practical terms, I can maintain a consistent rally at intermediate to upper-intermediate pace for a full session. I can also slow everything down for someone picking up a racket for the first time.

I offer hitting-partner sessions rather than formal coaching and I am not LTA-accredited. What you can expect is dependable practice, a measurable playing level, and clear, honest feedback when you want it.

My professional background is in technology, where much of my work involves explaining complicated ideas clearly to people encountering them for the first time. That skill transfers surprisingly well to the tennis court.

About the lesson

Hitting and rally practice
This is my main service, designed for players who want to maintain their rhythm, improve consistency, prepare for matches, or simply play more tennis. I adapt to your level and preferred pace.

Beginners
Complete beginners are welcome. We can start with the basics—grip, contact point and getting a simple rally going—in a relaxed, pressure-free session.

Focused practice
Sessions can include forehand and backhand consistency, serve practice, footwork, shot placement and simple patterns such as cross-court rallies, baseline-to-volley transitions and target practice. As a one-handed-backhand player, I’m also particularly well placed to practise that side with you.

Session format
Sessions are available for 60, 90 or 120 minutes. A typical 90-minute session includes a short mini-tennis and baseline warm-up, focused rallying or drills, followed by match-style points. A two-hour session allows for more variety and a full set at the end. We’ll agree on the focus before we begin.

Locations
I’m available in Guildford and the surrounding area, either at public courts or at your venue.
I can also meet at public courts in London. London bookings have a minimum duration of 120 minutes. Court fees are separate and will always be confirmed before booking.

Equipment
I bring balls to every session and have three rackets you are welcome to try: a Wilson Pro Staff 97 v14, Wilson Clash v3 and Yonex VCORE 98. This can be especially useful if you are choosing your first racket.
