About William

Good day My name is William and I am 49 years old. I am a born again Christian and I am married to Edwina for 16 years, we have 3 children and we have also fostered my 2 nieces for many years. I am a church and youth leader and a Bible student currently studying at a local organization called the Cape Bible school in association with Browntrail school of Preaching in the USA. I have been studying theology for 4 years and teach regularly at our congregation in Tokai, Cape Town. For my everyday work I am a printing sales representative or account executive for a local company called Viking Print. I spend most of my days traveling, by car, to different clients servicing their printing accounts. My clients range from advertising agencies, universities, corporate institutions to schools and small businesses. One of my great loves is meeting, talking and engaging with people as my personality as a conscientious person has held me in good stead throughout my career as a sales rep. Of course my faith as a Christian and my years of Bible study has improved my personality to great advantage when it comes to speaking and teaching children and adults. Our family regularly attends road running events as we are runners. We support and bring awareness to my eldest son's rare disease called Osteogenesis Imperfecta which is a brittle bone disease which renders him unable to walk and he therefore uses a motorized wheelchair. He might be small for 11 years old but he is very smart (with the mouth as well) and in grade 4 at Vista Nova school in Rondebosch, Cape Town. I have a 14 year old daughter and a 6 year old son as well. I have been playing and teaching guitar to children and adults for many years and have been learning to play piano recently as my father always wanted me to learn the piano. I love to make any lessons I do fun and interactive and will always endeavor to get to know my students on a personal level so as to really know what they require and who they really are.

The key that unlocks the door to learning a new language is to speak and learn to listen and listen to learn, as we do in conversation. This is why the communicative language technique is one of the most effective methods to employ and is of utmost importance as we learn and remember best by doing and in this case speaking. Having the students doing most of the speaking, listening, reading and writing we also cut down on the Teacher Talk Time and this builds confidence in the student as they are the one motivated to learn the language and we are to maintain that motivation throughout the process. Equally crucial initially and throughout the learning process is the eliciting of information from the students so as to understand, appreciate and comprehend what their needs are and then acclimate ourselves as teachers to what methods to use and how to implement the necessary methods and routines. As a teacher one's imagination is immediately kindled once you have an idea of what the students' goals are for acquiring the specific language. This then allows the teachers to create an effective learning environment, ideal for both teacher and student to thrive as it is fun, enjoyable and filled with many opportunities to learn. “Repetition is the mother of skill and character” This I have carried with me throughout the years of me learning and teaching guitar music. Practicing and repeating vocabulary, comprehension exercises and quizzes will assist in students in their confidence to speak the language. The use of pictures and gestures to engage and stimulate students will help with their remembering in the long term which is the aim until it formulates in the subconscious, as my Xhosa teacher used to say “You need to speak without thinking, impulsively” - In other words it must flow naturally from your mind on instinct.
