About Ricardo

I have the combined experience of working as an electrical operative in the electrical industry (over 5 years' experience) and as an Electrical Lecturer at various Further Education institutions (over 10 years' experience). I have many years of teaching young and mature learners, who aspire to become qualified electrician operatives.

I started studying and working in the electrical industry from my mid to late thirties, so I can fully empathise with a mature learner, seeking to effectively navigate and succeed in attaining the required academic accreditation. So that a learner can eventually gain entry as a competent and qualified electrician within the electrical industry.

I treat each learner as an individual and seek to teach, guide and support each learner to become confident and competent as an independent learner. Every student's health and well-being is also paramount and I take accountability to safeguard my learners at all times, as their tutor.

About the lesson

My tutoring approach is designed specifically for mature adult learners, who are preparing for electrical installation theory exams at level 1 and 2 (City and Guilds). I recognise that students may be returning to academic studies after some time away from formal education. My primary focus is on building both confidence and competence for all learners, so that they can understand theoretical concepts and their practical applications.

First, I begin by identifying each learner's prior knowledge, experience and learning goals. This allows me to tailor lessons to each learner's individual needs.

Lessons are organised into clear, manageable modules that align with exam specifications and key topic areas. Each lesson has defined learning outcomes and builds progressively towards exam readiness.

I use a combination of teaching methods to keep sessions engaging, such as;

1) Visual aids

2) Real-time questioning and quizzes, to check understanding

3) Discussion and reflection, to allow learners to share work experiences and relate them to theory concepts and principles.

To prepare learners effectively for exam/assessments, I incorporate revision sessions that target weaker areas and reinforce key principles.

I empathise with mature learners who often have work and family commitments, I offer flexible scheduling for lessons and supplementary learning resources to reinforce learning and revision for exams/assessments.
