About Timothy

My name is Timothy Mifsud, and I am a FIDE Candidate Master from Malta, currently rated 2103 Elo. I have played competitive chess since childhood and won the Maltese National Championship six consecutive times, from 1993 to 1998, becoming the youngest-ever Maltese Champion at the age of 14. I also won the British Under-13 Championship in 1991.

I represented Malta at three Chess Olympiads: Manila (1992), Moscow (1994) and Yerevan (1996). I reached a peak Elo rating of 2250 in 1997 before taking a long break from competitive chess. Since returning in 2022, I have continued to compete internationally, finishing equal third in the Budapest IM Round Robin in March 2023, alongside two Grandmasters.

During my university years, I also organised chess coaching sessions and tournaments. I now wish to share my experience and knowledge with other players, particularly beginners and more experienced students.

My aim is to make lessons enjoyable, practical and tailored to each student's level, helping them improve their chess skills, build confidence and develop a lasting interest in the game.

I offer lessons in both English and Maltese and welcome enquiries from interested students.

About the lesson

My lessons focus on tactics, calculation, positional understanding and endgames through practical exercises and instructive games. Each lesson is tailored to the student's level and individual needs.

Lessons typically last 90 minutes.

I am a Candidate Master, six-time Malta Chess Champion and British Under-13 Chess Champion, with experience representing Malta at Chess Olympiads.

I teach children, teenagers and adults, particularly beginners and players rated up to around 2000 Elo, helping them improve their chess skills, confidence and understanding of the game.
