About Michael

Hello! I'm Michael. I graduated from Sydney Grammar School in 2024 with an ATAR of 99.65 as an HSC all-rounder.

For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to share my passion for English and History with others. That is why I am studying a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Melbourne and have been tutoring for over two years as a profession. Someday, I would like to be a professor or a teacher.

Although I love English and History, I am never surprised when high school students tell me that they dread these classes. For a long time, I did too. It felt like no one had ever taught me how to write an essay and the marks I received for my early attempts were...well, abysmal. However, when I entered Year 12, I discovered that the process was not as mysterious as it seemed: there were simple strategies that no teacher had ever taught me, which made planning and structuring HSC responses much, much easier. My goal is to share these strategies with you and to help you craft the best responses possible. This will ensure that your Year 11 and 12 experience is no more stressful than it needs to be, while giving you the opportunity to achieve top-tier marks above your peers.

About the lesson

My tutoring is focused on practical improvement in written responses, particularly essay and short-answer technique, which is where most HSC students gain or lose marks.

A central part of my approach is teaching clear scaffolding methods that help students organise ideas logically and write sustained, coherent responses under exam conditions. Rather than memorising model essays, students learn repeatable structures that can be adapted to any question, text, or module.

Lessons also place strong emphasis on exam preparation strategies, including time management, question dissection, and planning techniques designed to reduce stress and increase confidence on exam day.

I regularly provide students with my Band 6 HSC notes and exemplar materials, which are used as teaching tools rather than templates to memorise. I place particular value on detailed feedback, and I am happy to mark and comment on student essays and homework outside of lesson time at no additional charge.

Lessons typically run for 60 minutes and are conducted online via Zoom. Sessions are structured but flexible, and can focus on content revision, writing practice, or assessment preparation depending on the student’s needs.

I have over two years’ experience tutoring students from Years 7–12, and I achieved Band 6 results in all of my HSC subjects, graduating with an ATAR of 99.65. I am currently studying English Literature at the University of Melbourne.

My lessons are designed for HSC students studying English Standard, Advanced, Extension 1, Extension 2, Modern History, and History Extension, as well as students seeking early preparation for senior years.
