About Madison
Hi, I’m Madison. I studied fashion in college and have more than 20 years of sewing experience, having started sewing when I was very young. I also currently design, make and sell swimwear, so sewing remains an active part of my creative and professional life.
I’m patient, approachable and genuinely enjoy helping people become more confident with sewing. I can teach everything from basic machine skills and beginner projects to clothing alterations, such as hemming, taking garments in, making simple fit adjustments and learning how to modify clothing so it works better for you.

My teaching style is practical, patient and relaxed. I believe the best way to learn to sew is by actually sewing, getting comfortable with your machine, understanding what went wrong when something doesn’t work, and building confidence through hands-on practice.
For beginners, I usually start with the fundamentals: threading the machine, winding and inserting a bobbin, understanding basic stitch settings, choosing needles and thread, controlling the fabric and sewing accurate seams. From there, we can move into simple projects, fabric knowledge, reading patterns, alterations or whatever the student is most interested in learning.
Whenever possible, I encourage students to learn on their own sewing machine so they become confident using the equipment they’ll actually be sewing with at home. Lessons are tailored to each person rather than following a rigid curriculum, so we can slow down, repeat a skill or move ahead depending on your experience and goals.
What sets me apart is the combination of my fashion education, more than 20 years of sewing experience, current experience making and selling swimwear, and my love of creative, hands-on learning.
My lessons are ideal for complete beginners, people returning to sewing, teens and older children, as well as anyone who owns a sewing machine but isn’t quite sure how to use it. Whether your goal is to learn the basics, make your first project, understand patterns, alter clothing or simply become comfortable with your machine, I’ll build the lessons around what you want to learn.
