About Amitabh

What sets me apart from other tutors is I am a successful working writer in Hollywood with multiple projects in active development across the business. Moreover, I love passing along the knowledge, insight and skills I've attained from my years in the business. Cinema only flourishes when we all have access to these concepts and skills.

About the lesson

My teaching methods are customized to the individual student. For beginning students, I have found it effective to begin by focusing on basic story structure and character development. We focus on visual and practical storytelling, emphasizing the importance of “show don’t tell.” We start with writing simple story loglines (one-sentence story summaries), character sketches, and scene-by-scene breakdowns instead of fleshing out a full outline, encouraging you to focus on one aspect of screenwriting at a time. Expanding the pace of the lessons, I lean into scaffold learning, building each lesson upon the last, so that you may internalize each concept. For more advanced writers we dive deeply into key screenwriting elements such as core story structure, dynamic relationship progression, and transformational arcs. Character development dives deep into complex ideas like character flaws, core wounds and redeemable traits. We stress the importance of visual storytelling, cinematic set-pieces and avoiding dialogue heavy “talking heads” scenes. This is reinforced in the practical application of the student’s own work they are developing, which they can receive professional feedback. This bespoke flexibility sets me apart from most tutors who have a one-size-fits-all approach.
