About Emily
I am currently a second-year university student attending the University of Massachusetts. While I am not currently pursuing a degree in music, I have a passion for piano and have played the instrument for now 15 years.
While trained classically, piano improvisation is my forte. Having played in church settings, I have adopted my own personal improvisation style.

Cultivating a passion for piano is one of my top priorities as a piano teacher. I want students to enjoy playing the instrument and making music; playing the piano does not have to be a tedious task, and piano lessons should not have to be dreaded. Students can anticipate enjoyable piano lessons!
With that in mind, my teaching methodology, while emphasizing technique, also takes into account individual students' personal likes and dislikes. I don't believe in forced practice or excruciatingly strenuous practice sessions, especially in the case of beginner learners. At that level, individuals should begin developing a love for music, benefitting students in the long run.
Also recognizing the differences in individuals' learning styles, I hope to tailor my teaching style to best fit students' needs. Whether students learn best through listening or through sight-reading or a combination of both, I hope to equip students as best as I can.
Given my natural patient and gentle disposition as well as my 15 years of piano experience, I believe I would make a suitable teacher for young pianists!
