About Görkem

I’m a Creative Technologist focusing on tangible interaction at the intersection of Art & Technology. I'm primarily interested in building things that sense and respond (embedded systems, electromechanical systems) with a specific interest in systems that explore new ways in which humans can interact with technology creatively. I hold a BS in Physics from Bilkent University and an MA in Interaction Design from the Estonian Academy of Arts. In addition, I also completed certifications for Data Analysis and Quantum Computing and I recently started teaching the Hands-on Introduction to Physical Computing with Arduino in EKA as a guest lecturer.

I take a hands-on, project-based approach to teaching Arduino, physical computing, and digital fabrication. My lessons emphasize experiential learning, where students build real-world projects while gaining a strong foundation in electronics, programming, and fabrication techniques. I tailor my teaching to each student’s skill level and learning style, using a mixture of: Interactive demonstrations – live coding, circuit-building, and fabrication walkthroughs Guided project development – working through practical DIY projects found on pages like Instructables Troubleshooting & debugging techniques – learning how to problem-solve effectively Encouraging creative exploration – fostering innovation through open-ended design challenges What Sets Me Apart: University-Level Teaching Experience – I have experience designing and teaching a university course on Physical Computing with Arduino (ID7219 - Hands-on Introduction to Physical Computing with Arduino), so I understand how to structure lessons for beginners and advanced learners alike. I advocate for open-design and publish my works on the web under open software & hardware licenses. My projects have been featured on various media outlets, including VICE, Hackaday, Raspberry Pi News, and Arduino blog. Beyond my academic role, I have been actively involved in the maker community as a Maker and Community Manager. I organized workshops and events focused on open-source hardware and provided mentoring on various fabrication techniques. I’ve also been an active member of various DIY communities on the web such as Instructables, where I share step-by-step DIY guides for my projects. An extensive web portfolio of my work can be on: (concealed information) Who These Lessons Are For Beginners looking to get started with Arduino and electronics. University students needing extra help with coursework in physical computing, HCI, or digital fabrication. Makers & hobbyists wanting to bring their interactive projects to life. Designers & artists exploring how to incorporate technology into their work. Educators interested in bringing physical computing into their classrooms. No matter your background, my lessons are designed to help you gain confidence, technical skills, and creative freedom in working with electronics and digital fabrication.
