About Jared

Hi! I’m Jared, a Stellenbosch University graduate with a passion for English, language and creative writing.

I have studied English Literature as well as the fascinating field of Language as a Science, and I have spent several years teaching and tutoring English and Creative Writing. Alongside teaching, I have written numerous poems and songs and have worked on several short stories, allowing me to bring both academic knowledge and personal creative experience into my lessons.

I also have a strong passion for sport and have competed at provincial level, which has taught me the value of discipline, perseverance and continuous improvement.

Most importantly, I genuinely love what I teach. My goal is not simply to help students improve their English, but to help them discover the enjoyment and confidence that come with understanding and expressing themselves through language. I strive to create lessons that are engaging, encouraging and tailored to each student's individual needs.

Whether you want to strengthen your English, develop your creative writing, or simply become more confident in expressing your ideas, I would love to help you get there.

About the lesson

My lessons are interactive, encouraging as much independent thinking as possible. I prefer leading pupils to the answer with intentional prompting rather than just a "question answer" method as I believe that it is important to, not only help the student with the content, but also develop valuable reasoning abilities which can be used in other subjects as well as general life. In the ever developing era of AI, I believe that it is now even more important to ensure that original thought is still developed as a reliance on AI can interrupt that development

I teach in English but understand Afrikaans fluently.

A general lesson would look like:
1. A brief recap of what was covered in the previous lesson to gauge retention.
2. An introduction to the work planned for the day.
3. An exercise to gauge understanding and application of the content.

My lessons are aimed at foundation/intermediate and secondary phase schooling
