About Sophia
I am a recent college graduate (Princeton 2024) majoring in public policy, but one of my greatest passions is teaching and working with high school-aged kids. I have several years of experience tutoring middle and high school students and take so much joy from helping to nurture concrete improvements in performance and the confidence that comes with it.
I have enormous empathy for those with those with a variety of learning difficulties or who experience anxiety around test-taking. I was able to raise my own ACT test scores through extensive study, and I incorporate the best of those modalities in my teaching methods.
A former school newspaper editor, I also enjoy helping students put together persuasive essays that reflect their experiences and express their strengths and personalities.
I will be based in New York City starting in August 2024 and am happy to meet with students via zoom or in person.

I have several years of experience tutoring academic subjects. For SAT/ACT prep specifically I will:
Lead students through the most helpful test prep textbooks and programs, and offer test-taking strategies and shortcuts.
Identify specific areas that require improvement, devote extra time to review in those areas, and keep students focused.
When it comes to personal statements, I get to know my students in order to help them structure essays that reflect their strengths and interests.
