About Matthew
I have always aimed to improve the quality of the Physical Education lessons and the curriculum to enhance the impact it has on my students. This has clearly been successful, demonstrated by my department being awarded the Gold school games mark. As well as the Gold school games mark, the scale of progress and development of my department was also recognised at a county level by Northamptonshire Sport, through being awarded the ‘Secondary Sport School of the Year 2019’ award, which is selected from the 88 secondary schools across the county. This is an achievement I am very proud of, not just for the accolade but mainly for the reason it was awarded, which was in recognition of the curriculum focusing on so much more than just physical development, being fully inclusive and accessible to all students, as well as providing the opportunity for all students to experience the feeling of success through sport.

As a practitioner with experience in a variety of mainstream, SEN, international and private schools, I have delivered both practical and theoretical Physical Education lessons in line with the British National curriculum, including BTEC, GCSE and A level awards. My philosophy of education is that every child matters and deserves to have the best possible educational provision and opportunities, this is created through high-quality meaningful physical education that prepares students to be successful in the future. To ensure this, my lessons are always strategically planned, personalised and differentiated to meet the needs of the students I am teaching. Creating lessons that are accessible and allow lower ability students to make progress but at the same time challenge higher ability students to achieve more is a skill that I pride myself on consistently achieving in my lessons.
