About Alaina
I am a violin tutor with 5 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music in Orchestral Studies. I have taught over 200 students from young beginners through to advanced performers. My teaching covers bowing technique, vibrato, intonation, phrasing, and musical expression across classical and contemporary repertoire. I prepare students for ABRSM and Trinity examinations and also provide orchestral and ensemble preparation. My approach is warm, structured, and always adapted to each student's learning pace and goals. I have helped students achieve strong examination results and join youth orchestras and school ensembles. Let me help you build a strong technique and a real love of violin playing.

My violin lessons are carefully structured to develop strong healthy technique and genuine musical understanding from the very first lesson together. Every session starts with a posture and bow hold review followed by a comprehensive warm-up of scales and targeted bowing exercises to prepare body and mind for productive focused practice. I place strong emphasis on bow technique from the earliest stages because it has the greatest and most immediate impact on tone quality and musical expression at every level of playing. Intonation is developed through systematic scale work across different positions, careful listening exercises, and consistent use of tuning technology to give students objective and clear reference points for their pitch accuracy. Students working towards ABRSM or Trinity examinations follow the full required syllabus with regular mock assessments and detailed feedback on every examined component including scales, pieces, sight-reading, and aural tests. Advanced students work on shifting positions, vibrato depth and consistency, double stopping, and developing a personal expressive interpretive voice. I use backing tracks to develop ensemble awareness, rhythmic precision, and the musical sensitivity needed for chamber and orchestral contexts. For students preparing for orchestra I provide specific sight-reading coaching and ensemble skills development. Clear and specific feedback is given after every performance so students always have actionable goals to work towards. My goal is for every student to build a confident healthy technique and a genuine enduring love of the violin.
