About Tom
Over the past 15 years, I have taught piano to nearly 300 students, including high school learners, college students, and adults, guiding each of them to achieve technical excellence, performance confidence, and a deep love for music.
My teaching philosophy emphasises consistent practice, discipline, and expressive interpretation, focusing on posture, hand coordination, finger control, scales, arpeggios, rhythm, sight-reading, and understanding musical phrasing.
I structure lessons to include technical exercises, repertoire practice, and theory, and I also provide practical guidance for effective home practice to ensure students progress steadily. Many of my students have performed successfully in recitals, competitions, and school programmes, while others have earned high distinctions in graded music examinations.
My goal is to provide a supportive, motivating, and inspiring learning environment where students feel confident, challenged, and empowered to reach their full potential as pianists while developing a lifelong love for music.

My piano teaching approach emphasises personalised instruction, flexibility, collaboration, and a positive mindset. I assess each student’s current level and learning preference before planning lessons.
I focus on developing technical accuracy, rhythm stability, dynamic expression, and confident performance skills. I provide clear demonstrations and step-by-step guidance to ensure understanding.
Flexibility allows students to progress at a comfortable pace while still being challenged. Collaboration keeps students motivated as they actively participate in setting goals and selecting music.
I create a supportive environment where mistakes are part of learning. In addition to piano lessons, I teach music theory, ear training, sight-reading, and harmony to help students grow into independent and confident musicians.
