About Diego

Hi, I am Diego, a data scientist with more than seven years of experience in a journey that took me from economics and finance to football. The reason for that journey is that there are two big passions in my life: football and statistics. That is why I have built my academic background around them, achieving a degree in Economics, an MSc in Data Science and an MSc in Applied Sports Performance Analysis.

I started working as a Research Data Analyst in projects related to economics, finance and education, until I finally started a career in football, having worked for two English elite football clubs, in two season (starting now the third one).

Also, I can say that I have always loved to help others to increase their knowledge. That is why since I was in uni I have been offering tutoring to others and after I graduated from my masters I became a data science lecturer. I taught statistics for data science and exploratory data analysis for master students in a Colombian university for 4 years until I moved to the UK.

Thus, I think I have the knowledge and the experience to provide highly valuable sessions.

About the lesson

Learning objective:
The main objective of this learning path is to explore how data can be used to support decision-making processes within organisations.

Contents:
It totally dependes on the student academic/knowledge background since Data Science, requires programming skills (R or Python), statistics knowledge and machine learning knowledge.

If the student doesn't have any of the previous skills, the learning path is going to be longer, covering topics such as: basic statistics and basic programming in R or Python.

After that the topics to cover are basic foundation in data science, basic foundation in data cleaning/preparation, data exploration, data visualisation and statistical/machine learning modelling.

Methodology:
Sessions of 2 hours: 30-40 minutes of theory and the remaining applying the theory to a practical example. After every session a practical task can be assigned so the student gets the opportunity to put hands on what he/she has just learnt.

Maximum 2 sessions per week (weekdays 6-8pm or Saturdays 2-4pm)
