About Skye
I am a dedicated piano tutor with 6 years of experience teaching students ranging from school to college level. Over the years, I have successfully taught 200 to 250 students, helping them develop strong technical skills and a genuine love for music. My teaching philosophy is centered on patience, problem-solving, and diplomacy, ensuring that every student receives guidance suited to their individual pace and learning style. I break down complex concepts like hand coordination, note reading, and rhythm into simple, manageable steps so students never feel overwhelmed. I also give honest yet encouraging feedback, helping students stay motivated while clearly understanding their areas for growth. Whether my students want to play piano for personal enjoyment, prepare for grade exams, or pursue it professionally, I tailor my approach to match their goals. My teaching approach for Piano, Music Theory, and Sight Reading focuses on building a strong foundation while making learning enjoyable and stress free. I believe every student learns at their own pace, and my job is to guide them patiently through each stage of their musical journey.
Patience is at the heart of my teaching. Learning piano involves coordinating both hands, reading notes, and understanding rhythm all at once, which can feel overwhelming at first. I take time to break down each concept into simple steps and never rush a student before they are ready to move forward.
Problem-solving is an important part of my lessons. Every student faces different challenges, whether it is finger placement, timing, or reading sheet music. I work closely with each student to identify exactly where they are struggling and find practical solutions that make sense for their learning style.
Diplomacy plays a key role in how I communicate with students. I always give feedback in a respectful and encouraging way, balancing honesty about areas for improvement with recognition of progress made. This helps students stay motivated without feeling discouraged.
My lessons typically begin with proper hand posture and finger exercises, followed by note reading and rhythm practice. I introduce music theory basics early on so students understand the structure behind what they are playing, not just memorizing key positions.
As students progress, I incorporate sight reading practice to build confidence in playing unfamiliar pieces, along with ear training to develop a better sense of pitch and melody. For those interested in performance, I also focus on expression, dynamics, and stage presence.
I customize my teaching methods to match each student's goals, whether they want to play for personal enjoyment, pass grade exams, or pursue piano professionally. My overall aim is to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and confident in their growth.
