About Jocelyn
I’m a singing tutor with over 6 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music in Musical Theatre Voice. I specialise in delivering personalised lessons tailored to students of all levels—school, college, and adult/professional learners. My teaching covers a wide range of styles, including classical, pop, movie, and folk singing. I focus on developing strong ear training, harmony, improvisation skills, and a solid foundation in music theory. Building vocal confidence is at the heart of my lessons. I believe every student has a unique voice, and I strive to nurture it with safe, effective vocal techniques. Lessons are interactive, supportive, and designed to inspire creativity and growth. I emphasise practical exercises that strengthen both technique and performance skills. Students learn to express themselves fully while maintaining vocal health. Whether we’re exploring improvisation, harmonising, or perfecting a challenging piece, my goal is always to make learning enjoyable and fulfilling. My teaching approach focuses on building confidence, improving pitch accuracy, and enhancing vocal expression for both The Fiddler and The Music Major. I start by understanding each student’s unique strengths and challenges. Tailored techniques are introduced to match their vocal range and style. Breathing exercises are emphasised to support sustained notes and expressive phrasing. Vocal health routines, including warm-ups and cool-downs, are integral to prevent strain and improve longevity. Students benefit from targeted ear training apps to sharpen pitch recognition. Metronomes help refine timing and rhythmic precision, crucial for ensemble and solo performances. Recording devices allow them to track progress, notice subtle improvements, and adjust techniques. I encourage experimentation with dynamics and tone to develop individual artistry. Feedback is structured yet motivational, ensuring steady growth. Short exercises boost quick wins, while longer pieces challenge endurance and skill. With consistency and guidance, both personas gain confidence, accuracy, and expressive freedom in their singing.
