About Robert

I'm 58 with two sons aged 20 and 22. I taught them both chess as they grew up. But I'm also teaching a 70 year County Councillor. I don't mind any age as long as you're intersted in chess. I've run a global company, my own companies, but mostly indulging my other passion which is flying helicopters. I live on a Dutch barge, on a small island opposite Kew Gardens, with my two Labrador puppies, Barney and Ozzy, and my partner who is a nurse.

About the lesson

I'm 58 and semi-retired. I have a First Class Honours degree in Engineering from University College London. I have had a career spanning 25 year in the advertising business. Then I started my own companies, one with Deborah Meaden. Chess has always been a passion of mine. I was taught by John Walker who wrote "Chess Openings for Juniors". I was a junior Oxfordshire and Berkshire County Champion. and I also played for Oxfordshire Under 18's when I was 12. I'm passionate about all things to do with chess as well as the stories and people that surround it (Spassky '72 Iceland!). I'm happy giving lessons anywhere - Remotely, in classrooms, in-home, or even the pub if you'd prefer.
