About Liam
I'm a Senior Software Engineer with 10+ years of professional experience in the software industry, as well as a First-Class BSc (Hons) graduate.
I've spent my career building and working with software in real-world environments, so I understand the difference between learning how to write code and learning how to build software that is maintainable, testable and genuinely useful.
I genuinely enjoy helping people understand technical concepts that initially seem intimidating. I believe being good at technology isn't about already knowing everything — it's about learning how to break problems down, ask the right questions and work towards a solution.
My teaching style is patient, practical and collaborative. I won't make you feel silly for asking questions, and I won't assume you understand something just because you've encountered it before. We'll work at a pace that makes sense for you and focus on the areas where you need the most support.
Whether you're struggling with a university project, preparing for your first software engineering role, or simply want to become a better developer, I'll meet you where you are and help you build from there.

I offer practical, 1-to-1 software engineering tutoring and mentoring for university students, graduates and junior developers.
As a Senior Software Engineer, I bring real-world industry experience to my teaching. My aim isn't just to help you write code that works — it's to help you understand why professional software engineers make the decisions they do, and give you the confidence to make those decisions yourself.
My lessons are particularly useful if you can already write some code but find yourself thinking:
- “I can make this work, but I'm not sure if I'm doing it the right way.”
- “I don't know how to structure this project.”
- “I understand the code, but I don't understand the bigger picture.”
- “I'm struggling to turn what I've learned at university into something practical.”
- “I need someone to look at my project and help me understand what I could improve.”
Depending on your goals, sessions can cover:
- Software engineering principles and best practices
- Object-oriented design and design patterns
- Software architecture and project structure
- Code reviews and improving existing projects
- Testing, debugging and writing maintainable code
- Git and professional development workflows
- Requirements analysis and technical decision-making
- Final-year project planning and guidance
- Technical interview preparation
- Preparing for the transition from university into professional software development
Sessions are collaborative and tailored to you. I'll explain concepts in plain English, work through problems with you and help you develop your own solutions rather than simply giving you the answer.
For university projects, I provide guidance, feedback and technical mentoring while respecting academic integrity — I won't complete assessed work for you.
Whether you need help understanding a difficult concept, want feedback on your approach to a project, or are preparing to take your first steps into professional software development, we can focus the session on what you need.
Online sessions are available, with face-to-face sessions potentially available across Greater Manchester.
Recommendations
Recommendations are written by the tutor's friends, family, and acquaintances.
We attended uni together, and he helped me move from being lost with most of the coursework to being able to understand what the requirements were for good and robust software.
He is so patient and never once made me feel stupid for the silly questions I was asking. I managed to finish my final year with a 2:1 with his help in refining my discovery descriptions and turning failures into learnings.Liam is a capable and patient engineer that i have had the pleasure of working together for several years. His guidance has helped me become better at identifying problems and being able to clearly articulate solutions in both my work life and day to day activities.
