About Heather
I am a passionate and experienced Politics teacher and Senior Edexcel Examiner who genuinely loves helping young people succeed. I’m warm, approachable, and build strong relationships with my students, creating an environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and developing confidence in their abilities.
Although I take academics seriously and work incredibly hard for my students, I’m definitely not a stuffy old-school teacher. I’m young, energetic, and relatable, which helps me connect well with students and keep lessons engaging.
Outside of teaching, I play the trombone and love reading, particularly anything political or historical. I think having interests and balance outside of academics is important, and I encourage students to work hard whilst still enjoying life and maintaining perspective.

I am a specialist A Level Politics tutor with 14 years of experience teaching Edexcel Politics, alongside 7 years working as an Edexcel examiner and now Senior Examiner.
Politics is the only subject I teach. Unlike tutors who divide their time between multiple humanities subjects, all of my energy, expertise, and resources are focused entirely on A Level Politics. This specialism allows me to know the specification, content, and exam requirements inside out.
My experience as an examiner gives students a genuine advantage. I understand exactly what examiners are looking for, the common mistakes students make, and the techniques that can elevate answers into the top bands. I teach students not only the content itself, but how to apply it effectively in the exam hall to secure the grades they deserve.

• US Comparative Politics
I am unapologetically organised with my resources. Over 14 years, I have created and refined an extensive bank of materials designed specifically for Edexcel Politics. Every lesson includes:
• Detailed content teaching
• How to apply content to exam questions
• Structured essay plans
• A* exemplar answers
• Exam technique and analysis
My resources are updated continually to reflect current political developments and contemporary examples. One of the most valuable resources students receive is my 100+ page exam question booklet containing hundreds of potential questions. By systematically working through these, students enter the exam knowing exactly how to approach whatever appears on the paper. Nothing feels unfamiliar or unexpected.
I am extremely proud that, over the last three years, six of my tutees have gone on to study at Oxford or Cambridge, with others progressing to Russell Group universities.
Alongside academic success, I strongly believe that students perform best when they feel comfortable and supported. I work hard, care deeply about my students, and build positive relationships with them. I am approachable, encouraging, and far from the stereotypical “stuffy” teacher.
My current and recent tutees include students from schools such as Harrow, Hampstead Girls’ High School, and Cheltenham Ladies’ College.
Unfortunately, the closure of FirstTutors meant that my previous reviews were lost. However, I am very happy to provide a wide range of references and testimonials from parents and former students upon request.
