About Kshama
I am a Ph.D.-trained scientist with over 20 years of experience across academia, research, and the biotechnology industry. My career spans across extensive experience applying science in real-world settings and also as an instructor across university and community college, with which I bring hands-on teaching and training experience.
I have taught Genetics to undergraduate students and Anatomy & Physiology at the community college level, and have trained and mentored junior scientists in industry in molecular biology and laboratory techniques. These experiences have taught me how to explain complex scientific concepts clearly to learners with different backgrounds and levels of experience.
I strive to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, working through challenging concepts, and building confidence in their abilities.
My goal is not simply to help students improve their grades, but to help them understand biology, think scientifically, and become confident, curious learners.

Importance of the "why"
I believe biology becomes much easier—and far more interesting—when students understand the “why” behind a concept rather than simply memorizing facts. My approach is interactive, concept-based, and tailored to each student’s learning style and goals.
Teaching Methodology:
A typical lesson begins by identifying areas where the student needs support, followed by clear explanations using diagrams, analogies, and real-world biological examples. We then work through questions together to reinforce understanding and build confidence in applying concepts independently. Checking the understanding is done in a very interactive way, unique to the student, via tests, homework, fun ways of practicing the concepts.
Why me?
What sets me apart is my background as a Ph.D. scientist with more than 20 years of experience in biological sciences, genomics, and biotechnology. I bring real-world science into my teaching, helping students see how what they learn in the classroom connects to research, medicine, and biotechnology.
My interest group:
I offer tutoring for high school Biology and AP Biology students & college students, whether they need help strengthening fundamentals, preparing for exams, tackling challenging topics, or simply developing a deeper understanding and appreciation of biology.
