About Sarah
- What kind of experience do you have? I have been teaching singing and voice production for 15 years working with both amateur and professional singers from beginners, through to BMus students, actors at the National Theatre and recording artists. I have tutored students for (successful) Brit School, Guildhall School Of Music and Drama and Sylvia Young Theatre School auditions and produced vocals on numerous recording sessions. For twenty years I have been a professional singer including six years as featured vocalist with The John Wilson Orchestra, broadcasting with the BBC Concert Orchestra, singing at Ronnie Scott's Club, the Southbank Centre, in theatres, festivals, jazz-clubs and cruise-ships and doing TV sessions (Comic Relief 2013, The Paul O'Grady Show, The Ben Elton Show and Lenny Henry In Pieces). I have made five CDs - all of which have received stellar reviews in the broadsheets. I also write one-woman shows which take the form of a musical and spoken presentation.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate? I have an up-to-date DBS.
- Where and with whom did you train? My singing teachers were Kenneth Woollam (English National Opera, Head of Opera Singing at Royal College of Music) and jazz singer Claire Martin OBE. My studies also include Estill Voice Training I & II with Anne-Marie Speed and Paul Farrington and Fundamentals of the Singing Voice I & II with Linda Hutchison.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations? Musicians' Union member.
- Tell me about some of your current students. My current students include teenagers working towards Brit School and Conservatoire auditions, a West End actor who is working on a singing role, a teenager who wants to build up her confidence as a singer, a professional cabaret artist, amateur singers who want to develop their vocal technique and performance skills and professional singers who want to develop their musicianship through learning to read and sight-sing music. I also teach Rock School and ABRSM Singing for Musical Theatre grades.

Singing makes you feel great and I'm an enthusiastic, experienced singing teacher who enables students to improve their singing at whatever their level. Lessons are tailored to the goals of each student and I encourage practice between lessons. - Which subject(s) do you teach? Lessons cover pop, jazz and musical theatre singing, mic technique, song interpretation, sight-singing, stagecraft and voice production for both singing and speaking. Help can also be given with building a varied repertoire and putting a great set together. Learning to sing is an all-round confidence builder and techniques like breath control and learning to relax can be applied across the board where keeping your cool and appearing confident is essential. As a languages graduate I am also able to coach French and Italian repertoire and pronunciation.
- Tell me about your qualifications. My vocal studies include Estill Voice Training Levels 1 & 2, Estill For The Changing Voice and Fundamentals of the Singing Voice Levels 1 & 2. I studied for 4 years with Kenneth Woollam (English National Opera, Head of Opera Royal College of Music) and 3 years with Claire Martin OBE. My Degree is BA Hons in French with Italian (London University).
- How much do you charge? £47 p/h for one to one lessons. I am happy to teach two people together by arrangement.
- Where do you teach? Lessons are in my studio in SE22 (East Dulwich, Southwark). I am happy to travel to a workplace within Greater London to teach by arrangement. - When are you available? Weekday daytime, early evening and Saturday mornings are all good. - Which ages and levels do you teach? All students are welcome, from age 8 upwards at all levels. - Which qualifications do you prepare your students for? I can prepare students for Sight Singing up to Grade 5, and Jazz/Pop Singing up to and including Conservatoire entry level. - Describe your arrangements for online tutoring. I am happy to teach through Zoom if a student cannot come along in person, though this is always preferable. The lesson would have the same format as face to face. A good broadband connection and microphone are important to avoid lag when doing Zoom lessons.
- Do you have a personal message for students? Everybody's voice is unique and I find it thrilling to hear my students develop their singing, presentation skills and confidence at whatever their level. When the teaching is good and the student is committed then real progress follows. It's also really enjoyable!

Perfect! Sarah is very encouraging and a good listener. She responded well in terms of what I was wanting from the lessons. She is very experienced with excellent technical knowledge. She would be a suitable teacher for any level of student. Highly recommended.
- Krys is coming on leaps and bounds. She's a fantastic interpreter of the lyric and now we're getting onto rhythm a bit more thoroughly it's adding a new depth to her interpretation. I'm really pleased with how lessons are going.Sarah's response :

Recommendations
Recommendations are written by the tutor's friends, family, and acquaintances.
I took weekly lessons with Sarah for 11 months. A complete beginner I wanted to work on my breathy sound which was causing me problems. Over the weeks Sarah helped me to find my proper and healthy singing voice. She came up with relaxation excercises to get rid of all the tensions, showed me warm ups for the voice and other excercises that encouraged my vocal folds to close properly and we worked on repertoire. I enjoyed every lesson and can highly recommend Sarah as a singing teacher!
You are a brilliant teacher, Sarah, I learned such a lot in my lesson.
