About Mikaere

Tēnā koutou - he uri tēnei nō ngā iwi o Raukawa, Waikato, Tūwharetoa me Ngā Puhi. I have a lot of experience tutoring (not lecturing) at university level (University of Waikato) and have been embarking on a passionate journey of reclaiming our reo for quite some time. I love reading and listening to all things about te reo Māori, te ao Māori, Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa and times pre-European contact within Aotearoa. I spend a lot of time listening to Taringa (podcast) and Ngā Taonga and reading online entries by te Waka Kuaka (Polynesian Society). I have formed a healthy habit over the years to evaluate my reo and do the best at demonstrating correct usage in all contexts, and kindly perpetuating that with those who learn with me - regardless of level, there's always room for improvement and learning something new.

I also learned te reo Māori as a second language through self directed learning, university (not yet graduated) and kura reo. I don't have any tohu (qualifications) to support my knowledge of te reo but I do have a lot of experience - kia mutu i konei tā te kūmara kōrero i tana māngaro, tēnā koutou.

*Talking about common reo hapa (grammar deficits)
*Providing a space for neophytes (new learners) or experienced speakers

If you are learning te reo at uni or the wā - haria mai ō mahi kāinga
