About MALIA

1. Alex is a U of T music education graduate with a background in classical, jazz, show music, and pop. I teach a variety of instruments such as piano, guitar, drums, and various concert band instruments. I have 10 years of experience teaching privately, in music studios, as well as in public schools.



2. Shana is a student at Centennial College getting her degree in music. She has the experience of playing classical, pop and jazz music for piano. I have been teaching piano since the age of 15. I have thought kids of all ages, privately and in group lessons. I have experience performing in concert bands for piano. I also play guitar and teach music theory at a high level.

1. He is a proponent of musical discovery and exploration fueled by each student's own interests and musical preferences. By developing their skills using materials they are familiar with and have a connection to (personal, emotional, preferential) we can bridge the gap and introduce novel musical materials to enrich each student's musical vocabulary and knowledge. By starting with material that students have a connection with, you are more easily able to teach each student novel musical concepts and motivated them to advance their technical skills.

Each student is different and therefore requires modification to any general methodologies, and I believe it is my responsibility as an educator to identify each student's needs and make appropriate adjustments at each point in a student's musical journey.


2. She takes the time to get to know each student as an individual and creates trust with them. Developing a friendship with each student helps create a safe learning environment for them. Once learning about the students and getting to know the strengths and weaknesses of each individual. I take the time that is required to help them improve with what they are struggling with. By giving them different workloads, allowing them to work at their own pace, and work alongside them individually. Every student learns differently, by understanding what works best for them I use that to help with their learning music.
