About Gabrielle
Master of Composition at The Royal College of Music, with a Bachelors of Music from King's College London. My final year Undergraduate courses were in Advanced Composition with Advanced Vocal and Piano Studies. I’m studying a MA in Music Composition with Dr. Catherine Kontz and Dr. Dai Fujikura. I specialise in piano, vocal and chamber music. My work is centred around creativity, intuition and colour with a heavy influence by my own Synaesthesia and passion for the visual arts. My work has been performed by professional ensembles, with a world premiere at The Royal College of Music. Each composition is pulled from a visual motif or story rooted in nature, with a colour palette that leads the tonal and harmonic landscape. Initially, I draw the shape of the music, and improvise intuitively in response to the atmosphere in my mind's-eye, as opposed to a mathematical or systematic approach to composition. I immerse myself in a story or human experience, and compose from the natural feelings and sounds that arise in response to felt emotion or the physical body. Prior to studying at the RCM, I graduated from King’s College London with a Bachelors in Music, whilst receiving singing lessons at The Royal Academy of Music under Sarah Champion. I also study piano, and take great interest in art, movement and psychology. During spring 2024, I plan to write for students at the English National Ballet, for a performance of a vocal piece at The Wallace Collection. “Music can name the unnameable and communicate the unknowable” – Leonard Bernstein. My practice in jazz singing has taught me useful improvisation skills, too. I can't wait to share my knowledge and skillsets with you! I have a passion for sharing music and I'm excited to explore the world of sound in our lessons!
