About Edwina

Edwina Lau is a soprano, pianist, and double bassist.

She graduated from her undergraduate and postgraduate studies in the School of Vocal Studies and Opera at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) with entrance scholarships. Her vocal studies are under the tutelage of Antonia Sotgiu, and she studied under Tiffany Lau from an early age. Recently, Lau has worked with people from Opera North as a Leverhulme Art Scholar and has been highly commended in the Alexander Young Competition at RNCM. In addition, she is a current music scholar at the Holy Innocents Church and has performed both as a soloist and an ensemble member in church services. Also, she is the vocalist of CantaCorno Trio, performing alongside Barry Lo (Horn player) in various locations.

During her time at RNCM, Lau has participated in opera scenes, community opera and children's opera projects. Since 2014, she has been performing in operas organised by the Tiffany Lau Vocal Performance Academy and had her first solo recital at the age of 15. Lau has been invited to perform at various events, including Concerts, Christmas carolling, music festivals, and charity shows. Her roles include Carolyn Ayres from Pearson's Silverwood, Ninetta from Mozart's La finta semplice (excerpt), Clara from Offenbach's La Vie Parisienne (excerpt), Dorinda from Handel's Orlando, Hansel from Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, Yum-Yum from Gilbert & Sullivan's operetta Mikado, Annio from Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito, Dorabella from Così Fan Tutte (excerpt).

Edwina is also active in charity work and has participated in workshops and events organised by Caritas Hong Kong for many years. In Manchester, she volunteered as a mentor at Citywise UK and was awarded Volunteer of the Year in 2022.

Apart from singing, Edwina is a passionate double bass player. She began studying the instrument with Xinlai Jiang at the age of 11 and has participated in various concerts and festivals around the world. Additionally, Edwina started studying piano at a young age under the guidance of Miss Chiffon Lee and Miss Siu-Yung Tse. She received multiple awards from competitions and was selected to be in the Lang Lang International Music Foundation and Parsons Music Limited 101 Pianist Programme.

In 2013 and 2014, Edwina received Heep Yunn Scholarship for Talented-Students in Cultural Activities. And in 2019, she was awarded the Miss Tsang Wing Yun Scholarship for Outstanding Performance in Music. In the same year, she received a scholarship from the Waverley Fund, which enabled her to start her bachelor's degree at the Royal Northern College of Music for classical singing.

About the lesson

Are you interested in expanding your vocal skills to include singing in different languages and styles? As a classically trained soprano, I offer customised singing lessons to students aged 6 and above in English, Mandarin, or Cantonese. If you're interested in singing songs in different languages, such as Italian, French, German, etc., I am well-equipped to guide you. Additionally, I hold an ATCL in piano and a Grade 8 theory qualification, so if you need to build fundamental piano and theory skills, I can provide the necessary instruction. Regardless of your skill level, I am dedicated to helping you enhance your vocal technique, broaden your repertoire, and attain your singing goals. My teaching style is patient, supportive, and encouraging, and my qualifications include an LTCL in classical singing and extensive experience working with diverse students.
