About Gunnar
I am a retired history prof with an Oxford D.Phil. (1998). I have taught at Oxford and Leicester Universities in England and Viadrina University in Germany. My speciality as an historian is the Holocaust, which includes the historical context (WWII), background (Modern European history, Jewish history, radical movements of the left and right), and related subjects (genocide studies, nationalism, international humanitarian law). I also have subspecialities in national and revolutionary movements in the late Russian Empire and Polish history.

My approach is student-centred: we discuss your needs and work out a plan together. I have a number of different teaching models: the Oxford tutorial model (we decide on an essay topic, you write the essay with coaching as necessary, I give you feedback on the finished product); the TA model (discussion to supplement lectures or lessons in a course you are taking); the read-and-discuss model (you bring a piece you have read or I set a reading; we discuss); the critical feedback model (you bring me written work, I comment and correct); the project model (for larger projects: we discuss possible subjects, decide on a research plan, discuss methodology and organization, you show me work in progress and I comment and offer guidance.) We would work out a plan at the first session, which is free, and go from there.

Details
I teach exclusively over the Internet, usually by Zoom. Though I may appear inexperienced, going by hours taught, I have actually taught via this platform for more than 100 hours, which through a misunderstanding were not registered.
