About Megan

I am a working professional who completed her Master's of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have a deep understanding of (and passion for!) psychology and skill building. I exhibit professionalism in my work daily and will always respect the boundaries, needs, and limitations of students. That is not to say that lessons with me will be stuffy or stern. I am proud to provide a stable and structured learning experience while still being an amiable and warm-hearted tutor. At the end of the day, we're all humans and you will be treated as such.

About the lesson

Hello! Here is what you can expect when taking lessons with me:
- A personalized approach based on the student's learning style, character strengths, and individual goals.
- A safe space to learn. Learning new things or topics that challenge us can be intimidating and make us feel vulnerable. You can expect an environment of encouragement, acceptance, and praise without shame or embarrassment.
- Fun, engaging, and educational lessons based on your needs and goals. I love to use real-world examples and perspectives to help topics, theories, and skills stick. I frequently use students' personal interests to assist in relating and remembering information.

Populations served:
I have experience with ages 3 - 65 and am comfortable teaching any of these ages (or older)!

A typical lesson plan - There really is no such thing for me, as I treat each student as an individual. But session structure may look like:
- A lesson-related warm-up/icebreaker activity to get the brain going
- Checking in on progress, challenges, and areas that still need work
- Teaching lessons and skills using engaging interventions such as mnemonics, imagery, reverse-teaching, simplified/jargon-free explanations, and real-world implications. Also, role play, skills practice, and interactive learning (such as using games) may be used when appropriate.
- Ongoing support, encouragement, and praise.

An important note: although I am trained as a therapist (who is still under supervision), this is not a therapeutic relationship and I cannot offer or engage in mental health services via this service. As a quick example, learning and practicing social and communication skills is A-OK, but exploring the root of these challenges and associated feelings would be unethical and outside of my scope within this platform.
