About Ems

Kia ora, I'm Emma. I'm a Registered Occupational Therapist with over 16 years of clinical experience across the UK and New Zealand, and injury prevention has run through almost all of that work—from helping older adults stay safely independent at home to supporting people and families through concussion recovery.

I currently work in community-based rehabilitation, with a particular focus on concussion services. Alongside my clinical practice, I hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Education and an MSc in Wellness — so teaching and translating clinical knowledge into something practical and usable isn't a side skill for me; it's something I've actively trained in.

What I care about most in this work is closing the gap between "clinical knowledge" and "what someone can actually do with it at home." A lot of injury prevention information out there is either too generic to be useful, or too technical to act on. I try to sit in the middle — grounded in real clinical experience, but explained in a genuinely usable way, whether you're a family member worried about a parent's safety at home, a coach wanting to understand concussion red flags, or a community group wanting a practical, evidence-based session rather than a lecture.

I bring the same pacing and prevention principles I teach professionally into how I approach my own workload — which probably says something about how seriously I take the "don't wait until it's a crisis" philosophy behind everything I do here.

About the lesson

Each session starts with understanding your specific situation — whether that's a concern about an older parent's home safety, a sports club wanting concussion awareness training, or a family supporting someone through recovery. From there, I tailor the content rather than delivering a generic checklist.

A typical 1:1 session (60 minutes) includes:
- A discussion of your specific concerns or context
- Practical, evidence-based education relevant to your situation (e.g. home hazard awareness, early concussion signs, functional risk factors)
- Clear, actionable takeaways you can apply immediately — not just information, but what to actually do with it
- Time for your questions, drawing on real clinical experience rather than generic advice
