About Ethan

We focus on physical ease and clarity—clean tone, finger independence, rhythm development—but those skills are used to do something, not just check a box. For example, I might teach alternate picking through a student’s favorite lead part or explore phrasing by reinterpreting a familiar melody in a new key or time feel. I regularly integrate creative tasks like “build a composition using only harmonics” or “layer parts using looping tools,” and I encourage students to reflect on what feels authentic to them. One student began lessons unsure of their musical identity and ended up writing and performing a full set of minimalist guitar compositions. That transformation came from making space for experimentation, failure, and play. I also include theory and songwriting tools gradually, in service of musical fluency—not memorization. I care deeply about helping students build not only skill, but voice—so they can express something uniquely their own. I aim to create a space where music becomes a practice of discovery, and where students leave each lesson feeling more connected to themselves and their art.

We start with key techniques—fretting, picking, timing, chord fluency—immediately connected to real-world songs and styles that keep you excited to learn, from alternative to funk, singer-songwriter to soul. I believe in teaching the “why” behind what you play, so music theory is introduced practically, helping you understand progressions, rhythm, and form.

Communication is continuous: I check in, adapt on the fly, and guide based on your feedback and learning style. I use a variety of tools—charts, ear training, rhythm games, and backing tracks—to meet you where you’re at. Guitar lessons should be empowering, not intimidating. I also share insights from my own musical journey and those of others to demystify common challenges. As your confidence builds, I help you explore improvisation, arranging, and performance techniques. Whether your goal is casual jamming or serious musicianship, I’ll support you every step of the way.
