About Yihan
Born in China and trained at the Royal College of Music in London, Yihan Jin is a concert pianist who has performed across the United Kingdom, France, and China, appearing at venues including Britten Theatre, Salle Maurice Koehl, and the Guangzhou Steinway Concert Hall. Among her most distinctive engagements was a premiere performance at Cardiff University of the music of the late Sir Peter Maxwell Davies for the composer's family and friends. Her repertoire ranges from the core classical canon to contemporary works by composers such as Lutyens, Ligeti, and Fedele. As a collaborator, she has worked extensively as an accompanist and chamber musician, and worked with the Cardiff University Orchestra and the BBC Ariel Orchestra.
Yihan is currently completing a PhD at the Royal College of Music under the supervision of Dr Christina Guillaumier and Professor Kenneth Hamilton. She holds a Master of Performance with distinction from the same institution. Her research focuses on pianistic approaches to the works of Sergei Prokofiev. She has presented her findings at the London International Piano Symposium and the 2026 Prokofiev Symposium in Paris. In addition to her studies, Yihan is actively engaged in initiatives supporting students as both an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a student committee member of the Royal Musical Association.
Her scholarly life extends naturally into teaching: she has served as a seminar leader in Historical Studies at the Royal College of Music since 2025, and has given numerous talks at Cardiff University. A committed advocate for cultural exchange between the UK and China, she has visited major conservatories and universities across China — including the Shanghai, Tianjin, and Xi'an Conservatories of Music — contributing to bilateral academic projects, international masterclasses, and lectures. She has also worked as a translator for Shanghai Music Publishing House and People’s Music Publishing House in Beijing.

In my piano lessons, my students feel encouraged and inspired to explore the musical world. I create personalised plans for students of different ages and levels, tailored to their individual goals.
I grew up in a family of accomplished teachers, which inspired my passion for education. My current students range from beginners and music lovers to those pursuing their Artist Diploma at major UK conservatoires. Many of my younger learners have achieved excellent results in ABRSM and Trinity exams and hold school music scholarships. I either go to students’ homes (a £10 travel fee applies), or they are welcome to my teaching studio in W8, London.
I offer lessons in either English or Chinese, depending on the student’s preference.

Perfect! Maya would like to continue her journey with piano.
- Maya is a great student and I enjoyed working with her a lot. I was especially impressed with how quickly she picked up notes and rhythm and how carefully she listened to instructions.Yihan's response :

I’ve been taking lessons with Yihan for a while now, and honestly she’s amazing. Super patient, really encouraging, and she makes everything so easy to understand. I always leave the lesson feeling motivated and actually excited to practise. Couldn’t recommend her more!
Yihan is a highly experienced and professional teacher. Since we started lessons with her, my son has felt very motivated to achieve his goals. Highly recommended!
I’m very pleased with my child’s progress under Yihan’s guidance. We have known her for two years, and she has always been a patient and encouraging teacher.
