About Aidan

I'm a qualified school teacher specializing in Leaving Certificate Accounting, with four years of classroom experience and a strong track record in one-to-one tuition. Over the past two years I've worked with more than 20 Leaving Cert students at both Higher and Ordinary Level, and I currently teach exclusively online.

I came to tutoring because of a pattern I kept seeing in the classroom. Accounting is one of the most predictable subjects on the Leaving Cert paper, yet it's also one where capable students underperform, not through any lack of understanding, but because layouts aren't automatic, time management falls apart under exam conditions, or a familiar question appears in an unfamiliar form. Those are all fixable problems, and they're fixable quickly with the right structure.

My teaching is deliberately exam-focused. I start every new student with a short diagnostic so we know exactly where the marks are being lost, then build a plan around those specific gaps rather than working through a syllabus you've already covered in school. We drill layouts until they're second nature, work past papers under timed conditions, and go through the marking scheme line by line so you understand how examiners actually award marks, including where partial credit is available and how to protect it when a question goes wrong.

About the lesson

How I teach

Accounting is a subject where students lose marks not because they don't understand the material, but because they run out of time, mislay a layout, or freeze on an unfamiliar variation of a question they've seen a hundred times. My approach is built around fixing exactly that. Every student gets a clear diagnostic in the first lesson so we know precisely which topics are costing marks, and we work from there — no generic run-through of the syllabus you've already covered in school.

Lessons are structured around the exam paper itself. We drill the layouts until they're automatic, work through past papers under timed conditions, and break down the marking scheme so you understand how examiners actually award marks. Students leave each session with worked solutions and a specific set of questions to complete before we meet again.

Practicalities

Lessons are 1 hour online, so I teach students anywhere in Ireland and the format works well for Accounting — I share a digital whiteboard so you see every layout built line by line, and you keep a copy of everything we write. Sessions are recorded on request so you can revisit a tricky topic before a test. I'm happy to work with students from 5th year right through to sixth-year exam preparation, and I also take on students at short notice for mock preparation and pre-exam intensives.
