About Carla
Hello and welcome!
My name is Carla, and I am a qualified educator with a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed), a Diploma in Educational Psychology, and a TEFL certification. I have several years of experience teaching English both online and in person to students from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
Throughout my teaching career, I have worked with young learners, teenagers, and adults, helping them improve their speaking, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and overall confidence in English. I also have extensive experience supporting students with ADHD, dyslexia, cognitive challenges, and other diverse learning needs, which has taught me the importance of patience, adaptability, and celebrating every student's unique strengths.
My lessons are professional, well-structured, and tailored to each student's individual goals. Whether you want to improve your conversational English, prepare for IELTS, strengthen your grammar, build reading skills, or simply gain confidence speaking English, I will create a learning plan that works for you.
One thing my students quickly learn about me is that I believe learning should be enjoyable. While I maintain high standards and take my students' progress seriously, I also enjoy bringing humor, creativity, and positive energy into the classroom. After all, learning a new language can be challenging enough without feeling like you're sitting through a three-hour tax seminar! A relaxed and encouraging environment helps students feel comfortable, participate more actively, and learn more effectively.
My teaching philosophy is simple: students learn best when they feel supported, engaged, and confident. I strive to create lessons where students feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and develop their skills at their own pace.
If you are looking for a knowledgeable, patient, and enthusiastic teacher who is genuinely invested in your success, I would be delighted to work with you. I look forward to helping you achieve your English language goals and making the learning journey both rewarding and enjoyable.
I hope to meet you soon!

My Teaching Methodology
I believe that students learn best when lessons are engaging, supportive, and tailored to their individual needs. My teaching approach combines structured learning with interactive activities to build confidence, encourage active participation, and create meaningful learning experiences. My methodology is influenced by several educational theories and evidence-based teaching practices:
Vygotsky's Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD): I provide appropriate scaffolding and support to help students achieve skills they may not yet be able to master independently.
Constructivist Learning Theory: Students learn best by actively engaging with language through discussion, problem-solving, and real-world communication rather than passive memorization.
Differentiated Instruction: Every learner is unique, so I adapt lessons to accommodate different learning styles, abilities, interests, and goals.
Positive Reinforcement Theory: Encouragement, constructive feedback, and celebrating progress help students develop confidence and a growth mindset.
Multisensory Learning Approaches: Especially beneficial for young learners and students with dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning differences, lessons incorporate visual, auditory, and interactive elements to strengthen understanding and retention.
Communicative Language Teaching (CLT): Students learn language most effectively when they actively use it in authentic conversations and meaningful communication tasks.
I focus on developing all key English skills—speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and comprehension—while adapting lessons to each student's goals and learning style.
For younger learners, I incorporate games, storytelling, visual supports, role-play activities, and interactive exercises to make learning enjoyable and memorable. For older learners and adults, lessons are practical, goal-oriented, and focused on real-world communication, fluency, and academic success.
My ultimate goal is to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable taking risks, asking questions, making mistakes, and growing into confident English speakers.
As a qualified teacher with a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed), a Diploma in Educational Psychology, and a TEFL certification, I bring both educational expertise and practical classroom experience to every lesson. My background includes teaching English online to international students as well as supporting learners with ADHD, dyslexia, cognitive challenges, and diverse educational needs. This enables me to provide highly individualized instruction that helps every student reach their full potential. Languages I Teach In

Afrikaans (Fluent)
