About Helen
I’m Helen, an early years educator with a deep passion for creating meaningful, child-centered learning experiences. Originally from Scotland and now teaching in New Zealand, I bring 16 years of experience supporting children, mentoring teachers, and leading high-quality early years practice. I believe strongly in the gentle balance between play-based exploration and more intentional, formal learning. Over the years, I’ve seen how powerful a hybrid curriculum can be when it’s responsive to children’s needs, interests, and developmental stages. I also know that many trainee teachers simply don’t get enough hands-on guidance in how to bring this to life in a real classroom. Understanding when to step back and let children lead—and when to step in with support, extension, or meaningful teaching moments—is a skill that develops over time. I’m passionate about helping future educators build this confidence. In our work together, I can offer practical advice on creating child-centered environments, planning next steps, writing observations that matter, managing behavior with empathy, and choosing resources that truly enhance learning. I’ve mentored many teachers who have gone on to build successful, confident careers, and I love being part of that journey. My goal is to empower you to feel prepared, grounded, and inspired as you step into the early years profession.

My online lessons run for one hour and are designed to support early years teachers in training or newly graduated educators who want practical, confidence-building guidance. I take a discussion-based approach, where you can bring any areas of the teaching profession you’re finding challenging—from planning and observations to behaviour support, environment design, or understanding curriculum expectations.
I blend supportive conversation with clear strategies, resources, and real examples from practice. With a BA in Childhood Practice and 16 years of hands-on experience in early years classrooms, I’ve led teams, mentored new educators, and currently work as a Head Teacher in early childhood education. Having taught in both Scotland and New Zealand, I offer insight into different approaches and ways of working.
My goal is to help you feel equipped, confident, and grounded in practical skills that make a real difference in the classroom.
