I believe that education should cater to each child individually so I learn what type of techniques the child prefers and then I incorporate that into my teaching style. I love using colour and incorporating powerpoints and flashcards :)
I graduated at Rhodes University having completed a triple major undergraduate in History, Law and English. I then did a PGCE (FET phase) specialising in English and History. I am hardworking, driven and absolutely love working with people, which is one of the reasons I enjoy, and am passionate about teaching and education. I taught English in Shanghai for nine months, with children ranging from ages four to seven. I am currently doing my Honours in Education at the University of Cape Town specialising in Language and Literacy, and History. A part from teaching I also like administration and organisation.

September 2017 – March 2018 COMPLETE PGCE

August- September 2017 STUDENT TEACHER at Diocesan School for Girls
My teaching practice was spent at at DSG (Diocesan School for Girls) in Grahamstown where I taught four various classes. I taught Grade 8 and 9 English and Grade 9 and 10 History. The history students developed their critical assessment skills, and independently began to challenge the history being introduced to them in a constructive manner, which ultimately led to improvements in their essay-writing and argumentative capabilities. Additionally, the English students improved the way they approached reading novels as they began to look at literature from a critical and contextual perspective.

July - August 2017 STUDENT TEACHER at Ntsika- Secondary School
The first half of my teaching practice was completed at Ntsika-Secondary School in Joza, Grahamstown. I taught Grade 10 and Grade 11 History, the focus was on going over past exam papers, correcting mistakes and then starting the terms work. The improvement made between my first and last day was that more questions were being asked, students felt challenged and wanted to discuss the topic at hand with the class creating a sense of classroom debate.

November – November 2017 PRIVATE TUTOR for Three Students
The students I tutored were in Grade 7, Grade 9 and Grade 10. We focused on English literature, poetry and grammar. The students also needed assistance with their history syllabus. Tutoring taught me how to teach on a more individual level and how each student needed to be catered for in terms of their different learning styles. Reference: Sousie Houghton
December- December 2013 MARKETING ASSISTANT (HDI Youth Marketers)
I interned at a marketing firm where I got to work with children by promoting the new Smurfs film. We set up at East Gate mall with games for the children, marketed the film and sold merchandise. The experience taught me how to manage running an area where children need to be cared for and kept busy.

March- May/June 2014 NETBALL COACH at Diocesan School for Girls
I coached the U11 netball squad during their winter netball fixtures. The team would practice twice a week with a match during the week or on a Saturday. I taught these students three years later during my teaching practice, which helped me create a teaching relationship with the students both on the field and in the classroom, which created a productive working environment.
