About Atticus

I am a writer with a background in physics, mechanical engineering, and design. After graduating from college in the USA in 2014, I moved abroad to China to better understand the diversity of cultures in the world. Since then I have lived in several countries including Vietnam, Chile, and currently in Argentina.

I have worked as a teacher in public schools, private classes and 1 to 1 tutoring sessions.

In my free time I enjoy reading about history, economy, and philosophy. I am also a food lover and amateur chef, as well as a casual alpinist who enjoys climbing mountains and skiing down them.

About the lesson

Over years of teaching I have found that the strongest and most important aspect of pedagogy is understanding. My classes are therefore focused on defining your goal and structuring all lessons around raising your consciousness to that end. I like to use discussion and socratic seminar to probe your understanding of topics and the associated technical language. We may also use text analysis, essay writing, mnemonic devices, and even games in my classes.

Each lesson is tailored to your own needs, but a typical lesson plan could look something like this:
1 - Short introductory discussion, review material from previous class and discuss any questions that arise. (10 minutes)
2 - View new material, check for comprehension and go through inline editing on a document. (25 minutes)
3 - Discuss potential problems that may come up on the workflow of the document or project and plan how to manage them for the upcoming class. (10 minutes)
4 - Create a mnemonic device that can help you retain information more easily, practice with a game. (15 minutes)

My classes will work best for you if you already have a decent grasp of English but need to work in a specific direction towards greater proficiency.

• Speaking about a particular theme or subject confidently with an expanded vocabulary

I have experience with students from China, Vietnam, Korea, Chile, Argentina, and Brazil. I am also fluent in Spanish.
