About Boris

My interest in programming was awakened long before I enrolled in engineering school. It was at the age of fifteen that I taught myself C# and I compiled my first programs, starting with board games and a contact manager. Since then, I have been able to gain experience and learn multiple programming languages including C, C ++, Java, Python. I also completed projects in C#, PHP, JavaScript (NodeJS) as well as many scripts (eg sh / bash / zsh). Among my codes still in use today are administrative tools used by a team of computer technicians, two web applications, some logic games and a low-level system utility. My long-term development side projects include a tool for measuring and analyzing proportions of historical musical instruments, for use by luthiers, a board game API allowing the standard user to create and publish an original game online even without programming experience (the latter under the direction of a friend and collaborator) and a web application for personal use leveraging the Flask micro-framework (Python).

This course is aimed at:
- individuals wishing to learn to write their own programs or automate certain inormatic tasks
- pupils / students of all levels up to bachelor's wishing to revise or deepen their subject of study
- enthusiasts curious about how the programs they use work or who want to find out how to build a program
- project leaders who feel the need to improve their fluency in reading, understanding and writing code

The student will learn or improve their ability to:
- use (at least) one programming language
- organize their project ahead of writing code
- think algorithmically
- write efficient and clear code
- find the information they need / browse the documentation
- use a popular version control system: Git
- estimate the efficiency of their programs / algorithms

My courses are mostly practical. For each addressed subject, a short real-world program will be written. A larger project bringing together all the selected subjects is of course another possibility. As long as it lends itself well to the topic at hand, students can come up with their own projects.

When multiple students are present, regardless of their level, I encourage them to solve problems dynamically and interactively by means of discussion, debate and comparison of different solutions/implementations.

Regarding the subjects covered, I adapt of course to the wishes of the student. To take full advantage of the course, a modest revision over the student's own time, between sessions, is encouraged.

Generally, the student will use their own computer - any functional desktop or laptop computer is sufficient. I will assist the student in installing the software necessary for development, as required. That being said, the student must know how to use the basic functionalities of their computer: start up, open a folder, browse files, type using the keyboard, use a text editor, save a file, copy and paste, etc...

In case of group sessions, there is an additional cost of CHF 8 per hour per student, starting from the second (sum rounded to the closest multiple of ten: 32->30, 8->10...).
An increase in the hourly fee does NOT affect sessions that have already been reserved. Current students at the moment of the change benefit from the old rate for an additionnal week after the change. In some rare cases, this period may be extended to two weeks.
In case of a decrease in the hourly rate, the change is applied immediately to all students and all future sessions, reserved or not.
