About Norman

I am a professional DJ with over 15 years experience. I have played at Electric Circus, Zhivagos, HQ, Distil, Sugar. I’ve flown out to the country for events in Port Lincoln, Whyalla and Robe. I have Experience working with brands, club promotion, event management and Live streaming.

I have also have experience in corporate, private and Wedding events.

My students have been from old age groups and experience levels. If you’re looking just to start out or upgrade your skills, I’m here to help.

About the lesson

I have 5 years experience in teaching and am able to take on students from a beginner to Advanced level. For lessons I come to you with equipment (XDJ - XZ).

Lessons will cover the following topics:

1. Introduction to DJ equipment: Understanding the various components of a DJ setup such as turntables, mixers, controllers, and software.

2. Beatmatching: Learning how to synchronize the tempo of two tracks to seamlessly transition between them.

3. Mixing techniques: Understanding different mixing techniques like blending, cutting, and scratching to create smooth transitions and unique effects.

4. Song structure: Recognizing the structure of songs including intro, verse, chorus, breakdown, and outro to know when to mix or transition.

5. EQ and sound manipulation: Using equalizers and effects to adjust the frequencies and manipulate the sound of tracks.

6. Cueing and monitoring: Mastering the use of headphones and cue points to preview and prepare tracks for mixing.

7. Performance skills: Developing stage presence, reading the crowd, and building DJ sets that engage the audience.

8. Music theory basics: Understanding musical keys, harmonic mixing, and song selection based on compatibility.

9. Recording and editing: Learning how to record and edit DJ sets for practice or performance.

10. Equipment maintenance and troubleshooting: Basic maintenance and troubleshooting techniques to keep DJ equipment functioning properly.

These topics provide a solid foundation for aspiring DJs to build upon as you progress in your skills and develop your own style.
