About Hannah

Hi, I'm Hannah! I'm a professional singer, actress and voiceover artist. I have 15 years teaching experience. I've taught individual lessons as well as group sessions for children and adults. As a performer myself, I've sung all over the world, including in the UK, Kuala Lumpur and the UAE.

I trained at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts on the BA (Hons) Musical Theatre degree course. I also trained at Morley Opera School and for a year with a teacher in Naples, Italy. I recently completed the Estill Levels 1&2 course at The Royal Academy of Music which greatly expanded my knowledge and ability to help my students.

I have a range of private students, including children and adults, working on their singing for professional reasons, as a hobby, or working towards an exam. I'm currently a singing tutor for Mountview (one of the top UK Drama Schools) on their CertHE courses in Musical Theatre and Acting.

My lessons are grounded in clear technique. I've received tuition from a range of teachers with different teaching styles. I try to bring all of this together to pass on to my students and enable them to take control of their own voices.

Due to my voiceover experience, I'm really good with text. I'm able to help the actor-singer analyse the lyrics in a song, and find the true connection and meaning behind them. I believe that this is what takes a "nice singer" into an engaging, stand-out performer.

We start with an initial free consultation. This is a great chance for us to meet and discuss your goals. We usually go through a couple of exercises and I possibly hear you sing a short section of something of your choice.

Once we've done this, we come up with a plan together. I'll identify any areas of your voice that could be causing you difficulties and we work on some exercises to help tackle these. We'll also work on one song at a time, to help you put this technique into practice. I can suggest some repertoire, but I'm also happy to be led by the student. I encourage my students to practise in-between our sessions to solidify the work we've done.

I'm a friendly and organised teacher of singing. I've had great results with past students and have successfully prepared singing students for drama school auditions and LAMDA and ABRSM exams.

Lessons are 1 hour and take place on Zoom. I usually recommend new students take a lesson weekly if they can. This way, you retain new information without too much of a gap between sessions. I also understand we have busy work and personal lives, so I am really flexible! I have a Zoom Scheduler which enables students to book available slots when it suits them.

My Qualifications:
-BA (Hons) in Musical Theatre Performance from Mountview Academy of Performing Arts
-Morley Opera School 1 year course
-Estill Technique Levels 1&2

Availability:
-I work Monday to Friday

I'm happy to teach singing to all ages and levels. Some students really enjoy singing as a hobby and others are looking to make it their profession.

I'm a committed, organised and enthusiastic tutor of singing. I always deliver my best for my students with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. I'm happy to work on whatever the student requires, but I also have a great deal of ideas and resources. Contact me now to book in a session!

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I first developed an interest in singing right back in school doing a school show. I've always loved music in general and started having lessons in my early teens. I started tutoring just after graduating from drama school, it's so rewarding being able to pass on what I've learned along the way.
  • What is the main difficulty in mastering the art of singing and what can help the process of learning?

Singing can be difficult emotionally, because it makes you feel so vulnerable. It's different than learning another instrument, the sound is coming from inside of you! I help my students feel comfortable with making all sorts of funny sounds and noises to help with this feeling.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

Something really valuable that a teacher once told me, was that you are using the same voice in singing as when you're speaking/shouting/laughing, it's all one. This helped me let go and realise that I have access to more parts of my voice than I maybe first thought.
  • Which qualities do you think are required to be a great tutor?

I think a great singing tutor needs to be able to offer clear explanations about technique and be encouraging and patient. The lessons should also be fun but productive.
  • Have you ever been surprised by a student; by their ability or quick progression?

I once had a student who had never sung before, but had a goal of singing at his wedding. I coached him through it, and I was able to witness the performance on the day! It was emotional for everyone, as it was far out of his comfort zone, but he pulled it off brilliantly.
  • Do you have some practical tips for an aspiring artist to help improve self-confidence?

The best way to improve self confidence is to really feel secure in your technique. You never want to go into a performance "hoping for the best". It's important to know what you need to do practically as a singer to get the results you're after, I can help with this!
  • Are there any personalities that you admire within the public sphere; who represents personal and professional success in your opinion?

Audra McDonald is a musical theatre performer that I greatly admire. She has beautiful technique across a variety of genres, but crucially, is able to act through song and really make you feel something as an audience member.
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in your chosen subject?

I think one thing that makes me a Superprof is that I'm open to different songs and genres, I have a background in musical theatre, pop and classical singing. You don't have to be stuck doing one thing as a singer, it's amazing to explore a variety of things for creative expression. Another thing is that a lot of people tell me that they feel comfortable singing in front of me, which is always great to hear, and obviously pretty important!
