About Jonathan
Hi I’m Jonathan — a passionate and experienced woodwind teacher specialising in saxophone, clarinet, and flute. With over 10 years of teaching experience across schools, community music programmes, and private lessons - I love helping students of all ages discover the joy of making music.
As well as teach, I am a performing musician. I've established myself in the UK jazz and improvised music scene, with nationwide performance experience. I've released two records under own name with the band Glasshopper. I work with other artists, tour and play in lots of cross genre projects. I love to discuss my experience in lessons.
I believe music should be accessible, expressive and enjoyable. Happy to help with your journey!

Whether you want to start from scratch, prepare for ABRSM or Trinity exams, or develop your musical voice in jazz, classical or contemporary styles - I’ll tailor lessons to your goals, pace and interests. My approach is inclusive and student-centred. Focusing on building confidence, creativity and long-term enjoyment of music!
Lessons can cover a range of topics, for example:
- Reading/theory
- Improvisation
- composition
- producing a great sound
- developing your own sound...
- learning music by ear
- active listening
I’m also experienced in working with SEND learners, running ensembles and workshops. Creating fun, curriculum-aligned materials that bring learning to life. I also have strong safeguarding knowledge and a trauma-informed practice, ensuring lessons are supportive and encouraging for every student.
