About Tusani
Hello! I’m delighted that you’re considering me to be part of your rugby journey. Whether you’re picking up a ball for the first time, building confidence for team selection, or simply want to get fitter while learning the game I love, I’m here to help you succeed in a safe, encouraging, and professional environment.
My background and what makes me a credible coach.
I am a student at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. More importantly, I bring hands-on coaching experience from the field. I have coached Rugby across multiple age groups: I have received first-hand coaching assistance from training at the Sharks Academy and the Western Cape Villagers team. These roles have taught me how to break down skills into simple, age-appropriate steps, how to motivate athletes with warmth and clarity, and how to create a training space where every player feels seen and supported. I have also played competitive Rugby games from all ages, which deepened my respect for teamwork, resilience, and the unique needs of each participant.
What you can expect from a lesson with me
From the moment we start, you can expect a prepared, structured, and positive session. I arrive on time with a clear plan tailored to your personal goals. We warm up properly, work on one or two core skills with patience and detailed feedback, and then apply those skills in game-like scenarios. Every lesson ends with a cool-down, stretching, and a short debrief so you leave with a clear focus for your next training. I also provide simple drills you can practice on your own between sessions.
My coaching style is encouraging but honest. I celebrate progress, correct technique with kindness, and work at your pace. I do not believe in shouting or belittling athletes. I believe in building you up.
Who I coach
I welcome students of all ages and levels, young children, teenagers, adults, complete beginners, and those aiming for greater performance. I am especially passionate about creating a safe, empowering space for boys and men, but my lessons are open to everyone. If you are returning from injury or trying rugby for the very first time, you are completely welcome here.
I do not claim to be a former professional player. What I offer is a coaching partnership built on genuine care, proven teaching ability, and total commitment to your growth. I promise you professionalism, respect, and a session that leaves you feeling stronger, more confident, and more in love with the game.
Let’s get started. I can’t wait to meet you.

My Approach to Private Rugby Tutoring
I offer private rugby coaching tailored to players of all ages and skill levels, from complete beginners discovering the game to experienced athletes refining their technique. My sessions are built on a philosophy that rugby is not just a physical contest but a powerful teacher of confidence, respect, and resilience.
Methodology and What Makes Me Unique:
I take a holistic, player-centered approach. Every lesson begins with understanding your individual goals, whether that’s mastering the tackle technique, improving positional awareness, or building the fitness and mental toughness to perform under pressure. What sets me apart is my ability to blend technical coaching with genuine mentorship. My background in social sciences and feminist studies has taught me to create an empowering, inclusive space where all players feel safe to learn, make mistakes, and grow. I break down complex skills into simple, digestible steps, use positive reinforcement, and adapt my communication style to suit your personality. I also integrate video analysis and game-simulated drills to accelerate learning. Crucially, I coach the person, not just the athlete-building character and a growth mindset alongside rugby skills.
Languages of Instruction:
I am proficient in English and Xhosa, Zulu and Afrikaans, and I am able to teach comfortably in both languages. If you prefer another South African language, please inquire, I understand the value of learning in your mother tongue and will do my best to accommodate you.
What to Expect in a Typical Lesson:
A 60- to 90-minute session follows a clear but flexible structure. We begin with a dynamic warm-up and a brief check-in on your goals for the day. The core of the lesson focuses on one or two key skills, for example, passing off both hands, tackling safely, kicking technique, or decision-making in contact. We drill these skills with increasing pressure before moving into small-sided games or scenario work that replicates real match situations. Every session ends with a cool-down, stretching, and a short feedback conversation where we reflect on progress and set a focus for your next session or match. I also provide simple, actionable drills to practice between lessons.
Who My Lessons Are Aimed At:
My private coaching is designed for all ages, from young children picking up a ball for the first time to adults wanting to stay competitive or get fitter. I welcome complete novices, social players, and those striving for team selection or provincial honors. I coach all genders and am particularly passionate about creating comfortable, confidence-building environments for girls and women entering the sport. I also work with players returning from injury, those wanting specialist position-specific coaching (forwards and backs), and anyone who simply wants to enjoy rugby in a one-on-one, non-judgmental setting.
Whether you are taking your first steps into the game or chasing a higher level, I will meet you where you are and help you become the player you want to be. Let’s get to work.
