About Paolo

My name is Paolo, a pianist, arranger and music producer, lucky to be able to share the unique mix of my musical experiences: classical Italian conservatoire training, recording studio assistant for orchestral recording in London, musician and arranger for records and live shows. Proficient in different genres, you pick up your favourite pieces and I’ll give you the right training to play and perform them - be it either for ABRSM classical or jazz exams, or pure personal enjoyment.

Online is always available, but if you have me in person, you can learn by proximity - something is getting lost in this digital age.

MY APPROACH

My lessons are aimed at giving you strong fundamentals, from which to build more advanced skills later on: the fundamentals are almost always overlooked, and are key to real progress and confidence.

I say "real" progress because a wrong practice can make you advance for a while, until you're stuck without understanding why - and we want to avoid that, because it destroys confidence and I believe it's the main reason for quitting.

Instead, I like to give my students some of the tools of real life musicians, no matter where they are in their journey (beginners or advanced).

What really matters in music is:
- Understanding of the genre
- Being able to understand a piece/song
- For some, reading a score or a lead sheet (which goes beyond just the notes)
- Rhythm
- Sound

As you may have notice, there is no mention of technique or speed - and the reason is that they are just means, not ends in music. I'm a big fan of the right mechanics of playing, but only as long as they serve a purpose - your purpose, based on what you want to play.

A quick word on age: it doesn't matter.

IN CONCLUSION

I am professional, friendly, and empathetic. We will train the basics properly, build more advanced skills from there, and ultimately learn how to really understand and play music.

You will gain: actual improvement, way more confidence, together with an overall sense of relaxedness (yes, it is possible!)
