I am a professional pianist and founder of the Giles Farnaby Piano School. I graduated from Birmingham Conservatoire and have a BA in Music from Bristol University. I teach both piano and musicianship

About Paul
Paul Lanfear studied Piano Performance at Birmingham Conservatoire. He later went on to study more academically, obtaining his Bachelor of Arts at Bristol University.
He took further piano studies with Carola Grindea (founder of EPTA) privately in London, where he obtained his LLCM Recital Diploma from the London College of Music. He has performed widely, taking part in masterclasses with Alberto Portugheis, Peter Donohue and other piano luminaries. Paul has taught extensively across all age groups, including teaching music in secondary school classrooms as well as in one-to-one lessons. He has an easy rapport with his students whilst encouraging them to fufil their potential.

My classes are mostly aimed at college level and adult students. I teach students musicianship and technical skills that they can apply to different pieces, independently for themselves. As a highly qualified teacher with over 25 years of teaching experience, I am able both to pass on in-depth knowledge of the classical repertoire and teach the improvisation skills essential for contemporary piano playing, be it jazz or pop.
Zoom sessions are followed up with video support and shared documentation. In many ways online teaching can offer the student a more mindful and flexible learning experience than simply turning up for a face-to-face lesson once a week.
