About Morelli

Erica Morelli is a dynamic soprano celebrated for her powerful voice, dramatic versatility, and magnetic stage presence. She has performed leading roles in iconic operas such as Le Nozze di Figaro, Cosi fan Tutte, Suor Angelica, Fedora, Tosca, Il Trovatore, La Bohème, Salome, and Peter Grimes, earning acclaim for both vocal brilliance and emotional depth. Erica made her professional concert debut as the soprano soloist in Beethoven’s Egmont with Sinfonia da Camera, a performance that launched her international career. She has since appeared as the soprano soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the National Opera of Albania and the International Festival of the Aegean, showcasing her versatility beyond the operatic stage. Erica has graced some of the world’s most prestigious stages, including St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, Lincoln Center in New York, and the Volksoper in Weimar, the Tianjin Grand Opera Theater, the Pazardzhik Symphony Orchestra, the Xi’an Symphony, and the National Opera of Albania, to name a few. Her global engagements include solo appearances with orchestras across China—among them the Shanxi Symphony, Jiangxi Symphony, Hunan Provincial Symphony, and Tianjin Grand Opera. In June 2025, she made her film debut in China in a production by 華爾街觀察. Erica Morelli’s artistry has been recognized internationally with numerous prestigious awards and honors, reflecting her excellence in performance, education, and cultural contribution. In 2024, she received a distinguished commendation from the German Bundespräsident and Senate for Culture for her outstanding contributions to international cultural exchange and artistic excellence. In 2022, she was awarded both the Deutsche Musikrat Stipendium and the Neustart Kultur Sonderpreis, two of Germany’s most esteemed cultural honors, granted by the Gesellschaft zur Verwertung von Leistungsschutzrechten (GVL). Early in her career, she was a finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, as well as in the Bel Canto, Elardo, and Arts & Letters competitions, earning an Audience Choice Award that highlighted both her technical skill and audience appeal. A passionate advocate for new music, Erica has had multiple works written specifically for her. She originated the role of The Fairy in Chloé Charody’s The Toybox, and composer Jeffrey Brody composed his song cycle Phantasmagoria: Three Songs with Texts by Edgar Allan Poe for her voice. Erica also coached directly with composer Richard Hundley, performing his songs in a recital honoring his legacy. A true singing actress, Erica brings roles vividly to life, from the lyrical fragility of the Countess to the fearless strength of Salome. She can be heard on Zephyr Records’ recording of El Capitan by John Philip Sousa. Erica was a Young Artist at the Weimar Opera Studio, Elardo Young Artist Program, Intermezzo Opera Foundation, and New Jersey Opera Theater. She holds a Doctor of Music, Artist Diploma, Master of Music, and Bachelor of Music from Indiana University, the New England Conservatory, Boston University, and the University of Illinois, reflecting her commitment to vocal excellence and operatic tradition.

Teaching Philosophy Statement
Erica Muller-Morelli
My teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that healthy vocal technique and authentic
artistic expression are inseparable. I view singing as both a disciplined craft and a deeply
personal means of communication. My goal as a teacher is to help each student discover their
unique voice — one that is efficient, expressive, and sustainable throughout a lifetime of
performance.
Over the past two decades of teaching in universities, conservatories, and private studios across
the United States and Europe, I have developed an approach that blends technical rigor, artistic
curiosity, and emotional/physical awareness. Whether working with a beginning
undergraduate or a professional singer preparing for an international audition, I guide students to
understand how their body, breath, and vocal function as one integrated instrument. Technique is
never an end in itself; it is the foundation for expressive freedom.
I draw heavily on my experiences as a performer to connect pedagogy with practice. Having
sung leading roles across Europe and Asia — from Tosca and Madama
Butterfly to Carmen and Il Trovatore — I bring real-world insights into stylistic interpretation,
language, and stagecraft. In the studio, I emphasize speech-based vocal awareness, using
speech as an entry point into resonance, phrasing, and musical line. In addition to this, I
encourage students to engage deeply with text and subtext so that every note emerges from a
clear dramatic and linguistic intention.
I believe that great teaching is inherently collaborative. My role is not to mold students into a
particular style of singer, but to equip them with tools to become self-sufficient artists who
can diagnose and refine their own technique. I foster an environment of trust and curiosity,
where students feel empowered to take risks, make discoveries, and learn from mistakes.
As an educator, I am equally committed to inclusion and accessibility in vocal study. I recognize
that each singer’s journey is shaped by unique cultural, linguistic, and personal experiences. By
celebrating diversity of repertoire and voice type, I strive to ensure that every student feels
represented and valued in the learning process.
Ultimately, my teaching philosophy rests on the conviction that artistry thrives at the intersection
of discipline and imagination. When students cultivate technical confidence and emotional
authenticity, they not only become compelling performers but also resilient, lifelong learners.
My greatest fulfillment as a teacher is watching singers transform — finding their voices not
only on stage, but within themselves.
