About James

I am a communicator. And the most efficient way to deliver your message is through language. That's why I've learned five languages so far.

By the time I had to choose a career, I realized that I wanted to be a journalist, and by the time I graduated I was already a multilingual journalist, speaking fluently English, Italian, Spanish and French.

Languages have been my source of income for the last 18 years. Through Portuguese I wrote for major news outlets in Brazil. English fluency gave me the opportunity to work as a correspondent in Hollywood and New York for five years. Spanish, French and Italian gave me a new career in New York as a tour guide, leading two day bus tours in two languages at the same time.

Now in London I continue to work as a tour guide at the Royal Opera House delivering tours in five languages, but teaching is my passion. That's why I am studying a master's degree and started teaching Portuguese during the pandemics. I love seeing the evolution of my students when they manage to make jokes in Portuguese, for instance. But mostly, I feel useful and fulfilled.

About the lesson

Lessons for all levels are based on two grammar books and a spreadsheet for verbal conjugation, evolving to music lyrics, articles, plays, TV shows, films, conversation and writing.

Also offer classes focused in writing in Portuguese.

Minimum 1h30min lessons/week.

Time and location flexibility.

I am a teacher who will demand exercises and homework. It's up to you if they will be made at home or during the sessions.

My lessons are rooted in Brazilian culture and how it is expressed through the language. Sometimes the class will be only focused on verbs, sometimes it will revolve around an idiomatic expression or a song. That will depend on the student's response to the themes presented.

You will have classes with someone knowledgeable, fun and challenging.

I have been teaching lawyers, architects and even a principal dancer from the Royal Ballet for the last two years.

I am graduated in journalism by the State University of Londrina, in Brazil, and am currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Global Affairs at King's College London.
