About Lucas

I am a young, enthusiastic and passionate London based guitarist currently studying at The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP). I am studying the Popular Music Performance course. I played for different artists and bands and I would love to share all the knowledge I have gained over the years with my students. I mainly play blues/rock and neo soul. I also love playing funk and pop. I have been recording myself for a while now and I have been posting a lot of videos on Instagram and YouTube.

I have been teaching guitar for over 4 years to all ages from 5 to 75 years old, online and face-to-face. I give lessons to all levels of musicians, from beginner, intermediate or advanced (acoustic or electric guitar). My teaching philosophy is to teach the way I wish I was taught. I can teach a lot of things, but it is up to you to tell me what you wanna learn! It could be theory, a musical genre, fretboard knowledge, songs, solos, phrasing, chords, harmony, soloing, technique, scales, rhythm guitar, fingerstyle guitar, improvisation, storytelling, musicality, etc... It can be anything. I have a lot of experience with teaching younger children and know how to make it interesting and fun for them and I also think that having fun is something really important. It is not only about practising and learning, but also about having fun while playing music. Because that's what music is all about, isn't it? I will adapt my lessons according to your musical taste and what you wish to develop in your playing.

  • 1) When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

My dad introduced me to Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, ACDC, Rainbow, etc… He used to always put that music on in the car and at home.
That's when I first discovered my passion for music.
I started playing guitar at the young age of 6 and fell in love with the instrument since then.
I went to my first ever live gig (Joe Bonamassa) at the age of 10 and this motivated me even more to become an expert and made me pick up the electric guitar too. Since then my love for the instrument has been unconditional.
  • 2) Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

I love listening to old time classic blues rock albums like "Joe Bonamassa live at the Royal Albert hall "or "The Wall "by Pink Floyd. I also love to listen to some contemporary jazz like "What Kinda Music" or "Geography" by Tom Misch, "Black Classical Music" by Youssef Dayes and "Empathogen" by Willow.
  • 3) Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

Learning Jazz, non functional harmony, polyrhythms and songwriting are probably the most challenging things to learn as a student.
  • 4) What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I think Guitar must be one of the hardest instruments to learn. As it's physically quite demanding especially at the start. It takes some time to get your hands used to it and it's quite hard to make progress in the early stages. I also feel like every movement has to be really precise in order to get a good sound of the instrument and get good tone.
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

Talent is BS. Consistency is key and being open to always learn new things is really important. I think that being obsessed with it will make you improve in many ways too. It's about passion and really loving the instrument because that will drive you to pick it up every day.
  • 6) Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Charlie Allen is one of the best guitarist in the London contemporary jazz scene and it would be amazing to get a lesson with him.
Stevie Wonder is obviously one of the best songwriters in the world. He has so much knowledge about songwriting and it would be a dream to get a coffee with him.
Tom Misch is one of my favourite musicians/producers and he always plays really soulful music. I would dream of writing a song with him.
  • 7) Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

I have played the Royal Albert Hall.
  • 8) What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

After playing the guitar almost everyday for more than 10 years you become an expert and know exactly how someone else who doesn't have that expertise can become an expert/professional at their craft. Knowing it took me 10 years to get all of that knowledge, it feels rewarding to share the most effective ways of getting better on the instrument to students.
