About Tylar

I have been enlisted to teach since high school. Many of the students that have been in my care are still dancing and pursuing dance in college programs or actively participating in competitive successful studio dance groups (elementary and middle school aged).

Through my work as a Dance Teacher and Fitness Instructor, I have had a wide range of experiences with children of all ages. My previous teaching experiences include: The Zone Dance Center LLC, CHASS Community Center, and Wayne State University, Legacy Dance Studio. I also have additional academic experience, as I have worked as an assistant kindergarten teacher at Walt Whitman Elementary in Pontiac, Michigan for two years; volunteered as a National Honors Society peer tutor for 2 years; and was previously employed as a tutor at the Kumon Learning Center in Midtown, Detroit, MI.

About the lesson

I am a graduate from Wayne State University's College of Fine, Performing, and Communication Arts, Summa Cum Laude, with a BFA in Dance. I am a professional Dancer, with a passion for teaching and children, currently enrolled at Ailey School.

I have been training for 18 years in various techniques: Ballet (Cecchetti, grade 4), Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical/Contemporary, Graham, Horton, African, and Improvisation. I am a former Garth Fagan Dance company member and most recently, performed in T.J. Hemphill's Perilous Times.

I love dance! For me, in my youth it was my only means of freedom and communication. I love the ability to express yourself while simultaneously having the opportunity to influence the culture of society. I believe dance is a vehicle of social commentary that helps the artist learn about oneself but also how each one of us connected and mutually affected. It allows one to become more in tune with the connection of body, spirit, and mind. It facilitates an understanding and practice of crucial life skills and indispensable ethical and moral values. I love to spread love and positivity which is why I want to share this passion that dance has impressed upon my heart with others.

I plan generalized goals (technical skills, vocabulary, artistic development) for each month, as opposed to a class by class or week by week basis. The class exercises, will be set on a week long basis so students have a chance to grow within movement and see their progress within a 5-7 day work week. I follow the lead of the students; I believe it is my job to learn how to best cater to their needs as opposed to cramming information for quota. I want my students to receive and digest the information and be able to understand the concepts on a deep and personal level.

I am very responsible and love children. Although I am young, I am very firm yet fun! Being a dance and fitness professional and working artist, I can assure that my students will receive a wealth of information regarding nutrition, self-care, and self-improvement/education. It is my goal to cater to your child's holistic well-being, including, but not limited to, their individual creative expression and growth. I would love to partner with your organization to facilitate great experiences and memories for the children in my charge.

I am open to negotiation and barter, in special circumstances. I realize that dance is every expensive. And although I would like to be able to make a living as an artist, I care more to enrich the lives of students who are SELF-MOTIVATED and SERIOUS about pursuing a dance career.
