About Madison

I built a career working professionally in kitchens for years before shifting toward teaching, and that culinary background still shapes almost everything about how I run a lesson today. Six years into teaching now, I've worked with about ninety-five students, many of them food lovers, travelers, or simply people who find abstract classroom topics genuinely uninspiring. My kitchen experience gives me a naturally warm, hands-on teaching style, treating language learning a bit like learning a recipe, step by step, with real enjoyment built directly into the process. I connect particularly well with students who respond to sensory, practical learning rather than dry theory disconnected from anything tangible or real. My teaching style is relaxed, warm, and genuinely food-focused, built on the belief that shared meals and cooking naturally bring people together and open real conversation. I take genuine pride in watching a student confidently order a complicated dish or follow a recipe entirely in French for the first time. Many students tell me they finally look forward to lessons, partly because we're usually talking about something they genuinely enjoy discussing together. My approach treats language as something to be savored, not just studied, and I think that distinction matters for many learners. After six years, I remain genuinely passionate about this food-first teaching approach.

I spent years working professionally in kitchens before teaching, so my lessons often revolve around food, recipes, and the genuine culture surrounding meals rather than dry, abstract topics. We cook together sometimes, or at least talk through recipes in real detail, since following instructions in a new language sticks far better when there's something delicious at the end. Vocabulary builds around ingredients, techniques, and kitchen conversation, genuinely practical words a student will actually use shopping, cooking, or eating out somewhere new. Grammar gets taught through recipe instructions and food writing, since imperative structures and sequencing language come up constantly and naturally in this kind of material. I encourage students to describe dishes, flavors, and food memories from their own culture, building genuine, personal speaking practice rather than generic scripted topics nobody actually cares about. Listening practice sometimes uses cooking videos and food shows, exposing students to natural, conversational French wrapped around something genuinely enjoyable to watch together. I keep lessons warm and a little informal, closer to chatting in a kitchen than sitting in a classroom, because that relaxed atmosphere genuinely helps nervous students open up. Cultural context around food and dining etiquette gets real attention too, since that knowledge matters enormously when traveling or socializing abroad. Every lesson leaves students hungry and fluent.
