About Cecily

I'm a professional cellist living in Northern Ireland. I perform as a freelancer both solo, and am cellist with The Rove Ensemble. I also am experienced in orchestral music and have worked as an extra with Opera North, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and The Halle.

I have been teaching the cello for fifteen years, and work with students of all ages and abilities. Currently I am cello tutor at The Ulster College of Music.

I also work in healthcare and special educational needs settings as a musician for the Ulster Orchestra.

About the lesson

First and foremost I want my students to enjoy themselves and find the lessons interesting. I talk a lot about good form when playing in order to avoid pain or tension issues, as I know firsthand how debilitating this can be when trying to enjoy the music you are playing. I enjoy working with a wide range of repertoire, so I have plenty of suggestions for what you might like to try next! Scales and technical exercise also form an important part of my lessons, as I firmly believe that to feel confident when playing your favourite music, having a good grounding helps to achieve this.

I hold a 1st class honours degree in cello performance from the Royal Northern College of Music, and have taught privately and in schools and colleges for over a decade.
